Q: Do I need a PoE switch for UniFi access points?

Most UniFi access points require PoE power. A PoE switch is usually the cleanest approach when several APs or other PoE devices are being installed. Compatible individual PoE adapters can also be used for selected models.

Planning a UniFi network for a new business

What equipment does a new office network normally need?

A typical setup uses an internet gateway or firewall, managed switching, Wi-Fi access points and structured data cabling. Depending on the business, it can also include VLANs, guest Wi-Fi, VoIP phones, cameras, meeting-room systems and a communications cabinet.

How many UniFi access points should I choose?

Floor area is only one factor. Internal walls, construction material, racking, client density and interference all affect coverage. The calculator above gives a starting quantity; Western Technology can review a floor plan before installation or configuration.

Do I need a PoE switch for UniFi access points?

Most UniFi access points require PoE power. You do not need to work this out manually in this builder: it checks the quantities you select and recommends a suitable switch when the gateway or current switching does not provide enough Ethernet ports, PoE ports or PoE power.

What is included with ready-to-go configuration?

The exact scope is confirmed before work starts. A typical configuration can include gateway adoption, switch and AP adoption, agreed VLAN and SSID structure, port labelling, firmware checks, device naming, a patch or port diagram and practical handover notes.

Can you install the network in Perth?

Yes. Perth Metro installation can include equipment mounting, connection, configuration, commissioning, testing and handover. New structured cabling, communications cabinets, difficult-access work and other site-specific items are scoped separately.

Can I buy the hardware and install it myself?

Yes. Choose Supply only and add the selected hardware to your cart. If you want the network prepared before dispatch, select the configuration option instead.
